Students with Special needs

There are two specific purposes for this section of the web page.  Both are designed to assist students with special needs, their parents or caregivers, and those needing information about special programs availability.

The first purpose of this section is to describe the differences that students will see as they transition from high school to college and to familiarize those adult students, interested in special services with the changes they will see.  Receiving special services in college is significantly different that it has been for students throughout their elementary and secondary education.  No special services are mandated by law and all special services must be requested, the need documented and arrangements made by (or on behalf of) the student.  Below you will find a few very good references to web sites that describe these differences and the process students need to be aware of. Since this transition can often be a very frustrating one for both students and their parents or caregivers, we suggest that you take advantage of these reference sites and learn just what to expect as you approach the higher education world.

The second purpose of this section is to provide you with the best information available on how each of our member institutions provides services to those with special needs, what services are available and the process for requesting those services.  Since the best information comes from the colleges themselves, you will find links below to each of our member institutions directly to the departments that handle special services for students.

While all of our member institutions welcome students with special needs and provide those services that they can, not all offer the same variety or level of service.  By using the links below you can begin to get a feeling for which institutions might be best suited to those particular special requirements needed and also begin the process of asking questions and gathering information directly from the institutions.
